I'm having a small issue. Notepad Replacer stops working every few days and I have to reinstall for it to work again. When it stops working, I simply get the default Windows notepad. Notepad Replacer works as it should otherwise.

I can't think of anything that could be triggering it. It doesn't happen after rebooting or anything, it just happens while I'm using my PC. I'll try opening a text file or something and I simply get Notepad instead. It's not a temporary glitch either, it won't work until I reinstall it.

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
Notepad Replacer 1.1.4
Notepad++ 5.9

Interesting! I will do some testing and let you know what I can find out.

I can't seem to duplicate the issue in testing.

Is the computer a member of a domain or just in a workgroup?

I just released a new version of Notepad Replacer designed to fix an issue with Windows x64, can you please give it a try:

I'll try the new version and let you know if I encounter the same problem again. If it does happen again, is there anything I could do which might help find the problem?

The computer is just in a workgroup.

Just as I posted this, I thought of something and found the cause of the problem. It's Wise Registry Cleaner. :| I ran the cleaner, and Notepad Replacer magically stopped working. I looked through the results and found this:

Quote:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\notepad.exe\Debugger
Reason: notepad.exe has been hijacked by C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad Replacer\NotepadReplacer.exe.This is typical behavior of the Trojan. We strongly recommend that you immediately remove the entry and use anti-virus software to scan your computer.
can be fixed safely.

Yikes! That's good to know. I've sent an email to the Wise Registry Cleaner folks to see if they can add some sort of an exception, or at least work with us to resolve the incompatibility.

Thanks!

I was wondering why mine stopped working, too. I was attempting some nasty registry hacks when I discovered this thread. It might be an old thread but thank you!

You can add an exception to Wise Registry Cleaner: under "settings" then "exclusion" add "notepad.exe" and it will ignore this during scans (and hopefully leave my jump lists intact, too).
