ASP.NET ViewState Helper (Fiddler Extension) is an extension for Fiddler2. Fiddler2 is an HTTP debugging proxy application that runs alongside Internet Explorer and helps to analyze HTTP traffic. The ASP.NET ViewState Helper Fiddler Extension is an extension that adds the ability to decode the ViewState on the selected page and display it in plain text. It works with the ViewState from v1.0, v1.1 and v2.0 webforms.
If you are looking for a ViewState analysis application that runs as a standalone Windows application please check out the full (but still free) version of the ASP.NET ViewState Helper.

How do I use this extension?
Once you have downloaded the ZIP archive, uncompress it into the folder “C:\Program Files\Fiddler2\Inspectors\”, or wherever you have Fiddler installed. Next, start Internet Explorer, then start Fiddler by clicking it’s icon on the toolbar. Once Fiddler is open, click the “Session Inspector” tab, then click the “ViewState” sub-tab. When pages are done loading in Internet Explorer just click their URL in the list on the left-hand side in Fiddler and the page’s ViewState will be decoded in the 2 boxes on the right-hand side. (See the screenshot above for an idea of what it should look like)
