Microsoft OfficeThanks Outlook, but what if I don’t want to? Stop nagging me! For those of you with Outlook 2007 and have no desire to install Microsoft’s horrible search for Windows XP this is for you. You can get rid of that annoying yellow bar by clicking Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options then uncheck the box labeled “Show prompts to enable Instant Search”. Voila, problem solved.

I must admit, Windows Desktop Search used to suck…bad. However, the latest version, 3.01 I think, for Windows XP is much faster and I honestly couldn’t live without it. Granted, it’s still slow, even in Vista (same search engine) but it’s priceless in my opinion…especially search built into the Start Menu. Invaluable. If you still don’t care for it, I’d give Google Desktop Search a try. BTW, instant results for finding E-mails, files, etc. should have been here a decade ago but at least it’s here now.

I really like the idea of instant email search in Outlook, don’t get me wrong, but why on earth do I need to install this extra software? Shouldn’t this functionality just be built into Outlook? I have to say, Office 2007 is by far the most disappointing version of Office yet. :(

I *totally* agree with you: this functionality should have been built into Outlook YEARS ago. That and a feature allowing me to add “notes” to an E-mail. How difficult is that…seriously? Should I really have to install a 3rd-party plug-in just so I can add notes to an E-mail and then ANOTHER 3rd-party plug-in to add tags? I do, unfortunately, have to disagree with you on Office. I think it’s the best product they’ve release in quite some time. That and WLWriter. The productivity enhancements alone are worth my money. (e.g., new flagging options in Outlook, hovering formatting toolbar in Word.) Just my opinion, though. ;)

BTW, great blog and great software. I think you’re doing the community a GREAT service.
