Why don’t I use McAfee products anymore? Maybe it’s because they have people on their payroll that write blog posts like:
Windows Vista Vulnerable to StickyKeys Backdoor
Let me share the basic premise of his argument with you, to save you from wasting 5 minutes of your life. He says that all a user needs to do to gain elevated permissions in Windows Vista is replace this file: “c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe”. Wait a second here… isn’t that file only accessible to Administrators? It sure is! So basically he’s saying that you need admin rights to replace the file… so if you already have admin rights who cares? Hell, why not replace notepad.exe and calc.exe too? OMG! I just realized something! All the .EXE and .DLL files on your computer could be replaced with something naughty! I guess every single file on your computer is a vulnerability just waiting to be exploited. Yeah, way to go McAfee. You’ve really saved the day again.
On a side note: I love the sub-title of the blog: “Cutting-edge security research as it happens”. LOL. Enough said.
